About the role
A Patient Care Technician, or PCT, works with nurses and doctors to care for patients. They perform various tasks such as checking vital signs, assisting patients with mobility, helping with meals and hygiene, and reporting any changes in a patient's condition.
Responsibilities
- Check vital signs and report any changes to a nurse.
- Help patients move around, get dressed, and eat.
- Collect samples like urine.
- Assist with patient walks, hygiene, weighing patients, and monitoring vitals.
- Work under the supervision of a nurse, ensuring all procedures are done safely and correctly.
- Assist with paperwork and other tasks that keep the hospital running smoothly.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- BLS CPR certificate (can be obtained during orientation if not already held).
- Experience: No previous job experience is required, but having completed STNA, CNA, or Patient Care Technician/Assistant training, or having helped care for patients for the past 5 years, or currently being in nursing school and completing one clinical rotation, is beneficial.
Qualifications
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and remain courteous to patients and staff.
- Knowledge of computer usage.
- Good organizational skills.
- Effective communication skills (both speaking and listening).
