About the role

Patient Care Technician works under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse to deliver direct, non-invasive bedside care to patients. This position must integrate company values into daily practice.

Responsibilities

  • Prioritize and deliver basic patient care, including bathing, toileting, feeding, grooming, etc.
  • Perform and document vital signs, measure and record intake and output, weights, specimen collections, etc.
  • Transfer patients using proper body mechanics and safe patient handling techniques.
  • Report any changes observed in patient condition or behavior to appropriate nursing personnel.
  • Assist in preparing patient rooms and beds for new admissions; maintain clean, neat, safe, and comfortable environment.
  • Remove unused supplies and equipment; arrange furnishings and equipment to provide a safe, organized area.
  • Adhere to patient rounding expectations and standards.
  • Maintain a physical, social, and psychological environment conducive to patient comfort and healing.
  • Promptly and appropriately respond to patient and family calls and requests.
  • Designate applicable charges to individual patients using the hospital’s established system.
  • Work during inclement weather and other staffing emergencies as required.
  • Provide a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff; assess environmental risks and implement precautions.
  • Comply with approved safety and infection prevention standards.
  • Maintain regular attendance consistent with assigned schedule.
  • Complete required trainings as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support organizational effectiveness.

Minimum Job Requirements

Education & Experience

High school diploma or GED equivalent strongly preferred. Two years of experience in an inpatient hospital setting preferred.

Licenses, Certifications, And/or Documentation

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Knowledge of current clinical operations and procedures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of infection prevention and proper body mechanics.
  • General computer skills including data entry, word processing, email, and records management.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and complete complex tasks.
  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and infection prevention standards.
  • Ability to maintain proper levels of confidentiality.
  • Ability to work closely and professionally with others at all levels of the organization.

Physical Requirements Over the Course of a Shift

  • Significant standing, walking, bending, reaching, carrying, lifting, pushing, and pulling, often for prolonged periods.
  • Both gross and precise motor functions.
  • Lifting/exerting up to 50 lbs.
  • Possible exposure to bodily fluids.
  • Visual acuity required for patient assessment and documentation.
  • Acute hearing required for accurate patient assessment.
  • Sufficient manual dexterity to operate equipment and computer keyboard.
  • Close vision and ability to adjust focus.
