About the role

This position supports patient care under the direction of the Nurse Manager and Registered Nurse. Key responsibilities include obtaining and recording vital signs, performing technical duties, assisting with patient care, communicating effectively, and covering the Business Associate desk.

Responsibilities

• Obtains and records vital signs as ordered and/or delegated by the RN
• Performs technical duties and selected treatments, procedures, and activities contributing to safe and efficient patient care
• Affordably assures patients are accurately identified (e.g., doors, ID bands, barcode scanning for lab draws) following established policies and procedures
• Effectively assists in the care of patients with consideration for the safety of key populations as appropriate
• Communicates and interacts professionally with patients, families, and staff
• Covers the Business Associate desk in the absence of the BA under the direction of the NM or designee
• Participates in receiving patient bedside report at the beginning of each shift and throughout the shift as needed
• Completes non-therapeutic functions under the direction of MD, PA, APRN, or RN, such as removing medications from the pneumatic tube system and delivering them to the appropriate practitioner

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• CNA or other educational equivalent (Medical Assistant, CPCT, EMT, student nurse from an accredited program, or LPN)
• Two (2) years relevant direct patient care experience as dictated by placement or education as stated above
• Successfully complete the Patient Care Associate Competency Based Training and Practicum and unit specific competencies, including age-specific competencies
• CT CNA certification, EMT, student nurse from an accredited program, or LPN
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) training prior to employment or within one (1) month of hire
• PCT must maintain BLS at all times during employment
