About the Role

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) provides designated direct and indirect patient care activities under the direction and supervision of the licensed clinical team members, valuing the uniqueness of each individual and addressing the physiological, emotional, and social needs of a diverse patient population. This role may collaborate with all clinical departments and designated staff at the patient's site to facilitate and assist with telehealth encounters between patients and providers.

Responsibilities

• Communicates with and supports the interprofessional team, patient, family, and designated care partners.
• Performs validated and designated direct and indirect patient care activities to meet patient care needs under the direction of licensed clinical team members.
• Actively promotes and maintains a safe patient care environment.
• Provides assistance in maintaining supplies and equipment to ensure efficient unit operations.
• Conducts patient rounds as assigned, anticipates patient needs, and responds to patient call lights or pages promptly.
• May be assigned the role of a virtual safety associate based on campus needs.
• May facilitate, under the direction of the distant provider, a clinical exam including the use of required peripheral devices (e.g., electronic stethoscope), technology (e.g., video conferencing equipment), and software (e.g., Epic, Vidyo) to ensure a comprehensive virtual care encounter.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, patient care needs, and the role within an interprofessional team.
• Ability to complete delegated tasks within the scope of the role.
• Knowledge of personal care and hygiene necessary for quality of life, and the ability to apply this knowledge to patients daily.
• Understanding of risks faced by patients in a healthcare environment and the ability to mitigate these risks.
• Ability to convey respect and collaborate effectively with patients, families, and care partners from diverse backgrounds.
• Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools, and techniques.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) upon hire.
• LVHN colleagues must successfully complete LVHN's inexperienced technical partner course.

Physical Demands

• Lift and carry 40-50 lbs (e.g., pushing/pulling patients on beds or stretchers requiring 29 lbs. push force, lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight).
• Frequent to continuous standing/walking (patient transporters may walk 8-10 miles per shift).
• May be required to perform activities specific to the role, including kneeling, bending, squatting, and performing CPR.
