About the role
As the PBX Operator, you will answer and direct all incoming calls, assist with outgoing and internal calls, and handle overhead paging. You will monitor alarm panels, perform alarm testing, call codes (red, blue, yellow), and maintain and update internal phone, extension, and pager lists.
Responsibilities
- Operate telephone switchboard to relay incoming, outgoing, and inter-office calls in a timely, accurate, and professional manner.
- Maintain an alphabetical file of patients' names, room numbers, and telephone extensions to expedite relaying of calls.
- Page authorized personnel over the intercom system and announce close of visiting hours and other notifications.
- Record all pertinent information regarding the hospital's telephone network system and notify the telephone carrier and supervisor of any issues or malfunctions.
- Page all codes and emergencies and follow proper procedures as established in the Fire and Safety Manual and Disaster Plan.
- Maintain communications center during a fire or disaster.
- Demonstrate appropriate use of independent judgment and decision-making.
- Provide excellent customer service at all times.
- Ensure the work area is clean, clutter-free, and organized.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Understanding of basic medical terminology.
- Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload and multitask.
Preferred Qualifications
- One year of previous PBX experience.
- Bilingual skills to communicate effectively with patients and families.
- Previous experience working in a hospital.
Pay
$22.00 per hour.
