Responsibilities
- Fabricate steel structures for mold bracing, in-process platforms, carts, fixtures, and other custom items.
- Accurately measure, cut, fit, bend, and weld steel structures using stick, MIG, and TIG welding techniques.
- Interpret technical drawings and instructions to guide fabrication processes.
- Perform layout and fabrication operations, ensuring adherence to TDC mold fabrication approved processes.
- Ensure all operations are performed safely and maintain a clean, organized workspace and equipment.
- Conduct daily routine maintenance of equipment and store materials/tools safely.
- Support continuous improvement in safety, quality, delivery, and cost through systems like Kaizen and CAR.
- Maintain departmental budget for labor and materials while meeting key milestones.
- Handle environmental compliance for chemical usage, labeling, storage, and disposal.
- Identify and communicate problems (e.g., material shortages, employee relations) within scope.
- Perform housekeeping duties, including promoting cleanliness, tool organization, and workstation orderliness.
Skills
- Steel fabrication and welding (stick, MIG, TIG).
- Operation of drill press, hand tools, air tools, band saw, plasma cutter, overhead crane, pipe bender, and oxygen/acetylene torches.
- Accurate measurement, cutting, fitting, and bending of raw materials.
- Plasma cutting, tube bending, rigging, and heavy part handling.
- Forklift and overhead hoist operation.
- Reading and interpreting technical drawings.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED; or 1–3 months of related experience/training (or equivalent combination).
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, percentages, and bar graphs).
- Problem-solving ability in situations with limited standardization.
- Must pass drug/alcohol screening contingent upon hiring.
- Ability to stand, walk, and work in and around boats/molds for extended periods.
- Commitment to working efficiently and safely at all times.
Physical Demands
- Stands for 5+ hours/day; walks for 3+ hours/day.
- Lifts/carries: up to 50 lbs. (maximum), 15 lbs. frequently, 30 lbs. occasionally.
- Constant use of hands for simple grasping, pushing/pulling, and fine manipulation (both hands).
- Frequent bending at waist, squatting, climbing ladders/stairs, kneeling, and reaching above shoulder.
- Occasional use of feet for repetitive activities.
Work Environment
- Exposure to ambient temperatures (hot/cold), dust, and airborne particulates from cutting/drilling/grinding.
- Use of sharp tooling for cutting fiberglass.
- Typical 10-hour workday, 4- or 5-day workweek with occasional/frequent overtime.
- Required to work indoors/outdoors year-round in all weather conditions.
- May work during production shutdowns or off-schedule periods.
- Safety glasses required in production areas; other PPE may be required for specific projects.
