PB Blockup / Platforms Technician TDC

About the Role

Provide platforms and raw material block-ups to CNC machines, operate spray equipment, and maintain schedule and quality.

Responsibilities

• Application of fiberglass chop and barrier coats on sealed foam plugs
• Fabricate raw material blocks to drawings provided or verbal direction from the supervisor
• Fabricate plywood bases
• Manage platforms and cart inventory
• Layout, cut, and bond foam to platforms and carts for both machines
• Construct wood boxed structures as filler for foam block-ups
• Deck platforms and carts with plywood as substrate to bond foam blocks
• Strip platforms after mold production and prepare for reuse
• Ensure all operations are performed safely
• Maintain all areas and equipment clean, neat, and organized at all times
• Conduct daily routine maintenance of equipment
• Store all materials safely at the end of the day
• Conduct operations using TDC mold fabrication approved processes (ISPC)
• Provide for continuous improvement and zero recordable safety environment
• Adhere to procedures and processes for quality
• Maintain schedule to meet key milestones
• Maintain departmental budget in labor and materials
• Lead by example and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures
• Support a predictable work environment where associates are held accountable and treated with respect
• Support plans to achieve key metrics for the department (safety, turnover, supply spending)
• Understand environmental compliance related to material handling, usage, labeling, storage, and disposal
• Support continuous improvement using Safety system, Kaizen, CAR system, and other problem-solving techniques
• Maintain all equipment used in the area
• Drive workplace organization using the 5S methodology
• Identify and communicate problems (material shortages, employee relations issues) within scope
• Support training of team members
• Interact with other departments to resolve issues
• Perform housekeeping and other job-related duties as assigned
• Promote department cleanliness and tool/workstation organization

Skills & Proficiencies

• Safe operation of table saws, band saws, sanders, planers, etc.
• Chop gun and barrier gun (Spraycore) operation
• Use of typical woodworking hand tools
• Understanding of adhesive systems and their use
• Reading fabrication drawings
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
• Ability to speak effectively before groups
• Basic mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, percentages)
• Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization
• Ability to interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• One to three months of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• General knowledge and understanding of required power tools
• Must be able to understand and execute top-quality work
• Must pass strength/stress test and drug/alcohol screening contingent to the hiring process
• Must be able to stand and work in and around boats/molds throughout the entire day
• Must work efficiently and safely at all times

Work Environment

• Exposure to ambient cold/heat temperatures (seasonal)
• Very dusty environment with airborne particulates from cutting, drilling, grinding
• Exposure to extremely sharp tooling used for cutting fiberglass
• Typical 10-hour workday, 4- or 5-day workweek schedule
• Occasional to frequent overtime based on production needs
• Required to work indoors and outdoors, year-round, in all weather conditions
• May be required to work during production shutdowns or off-schedule periods
• Safety glasses required in production areas; other PPE may be required based on projects
