PB Blockup / Platforms Technician TDC

About the Role

Provide platforms and raw material block-ups to CNC machines, operate spray equipment, and maintain schedule and quality.

Responsibilities

• Application of fiberglass chop & barrier coats on sealed foam plugs
• Fabricate raw material blocks to drawings provided or verbal direction from the supervisor
• Fabricate plywood bases
• Manage platforms and cart inventory
• Layout, cut, and bond foam to platforms and carts for both machines
• Construct wood boxed structures as filler for foam block-ups
• Deck platforms and carts with plywood as substrate to bond foam blocks
• Strip platforms after mold production and prepare for reuse
• Ensure all operations are performed safely
• Maintain all areas and equipment clean, neat, and organized at all times
• Conduct daily routine maintenance of equipment
• Store all materials safely at the end of the day
• Conduct operations using TDC mold fabrication approved processes (ISPC)
• Provide for continuous improvement and zero recordable safety environment
• Adhere to procedures and processes for quality
• Maintain schedule to meet key milestones
• Maintain departmental budget in labor and materials
• Lead by example and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures
• Support a predictable work environment where associates are held accountable and treated with respect
• Support plans to achieve key metrics for safety, turnover, and supply spending
• Understand environmental compliance related to material handling, usage, labeling, storage, and disposal
• Support continuous improvement using Safety system, Kaizen, CAR system, and other problem-solving techniques
• Maintain all equipment used in the area
• Drive workplace organization using the 5S methodology
• Identify and communicate problems (e.g., material shortages, employee relations issues)
• Support training of team members
• Interact with other departments to resolve issues
• Perform housekeeping and other job-related duties as assigned
• Maintain cleanliness and orderliness standards throughout the plant
• Promote department cleanliness and tool/workstation organization

Skills & Proficiencies

• Safe operation of table saws, band saws, sanders, planers, etc.
• Chop gun and barrier gun (Spraycore) operation
• Use of typical woodworking hand tools
• Understanding of adhesive systems and their use
• Reading fabrication drawings
• Teamwork and collaboration
• Quality focus and attention to detail
• Dependability and punctuality

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals
• Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
• Ability to speak effectively before groups
• Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, percentages)
• Ability to solve practical problems with limited standardization
• Ability to interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
• General knowledge and understanding of required power tools
• Ability to execute top-quality work
• Must pass strength/stress test and drug/alcohol screening
• Must be able to stand and work in and around boats/molds throughout the day
• Must work efficiently and safely at all times

Work Environment

• Exposure to ambient cold in winter and heat in summer
• Very dusty environment with airborne particulates from cutting, drilling, grinding
• Exposure to sharp tooling used for cutting fiberglass
• Typical 10-hour workday, 4- or 5-day workweek
• Occasional to frequent overtime based on schedule
• Required to work indoors and outdoors year-round in all weather conditions
• May be required to work during production shutdowns or off-schedule periods
• Safety glasses required in production areas; other PPE may be required based on projects
