The Role
We are looking for a meticulous Payroll & Tax Specialist to support the payroll operations of the People team that supports Cart.com’s people and Cart.com’s success as a company. This role will be responsible for the People Payroll day-to-day duties that drive the implementation of solutions and strategies that ensure results and make an impact. This person will primarily support the execution of our Payroll roadmap that will result in automation, standardization, and centralization of HR processes and systems.
What You’ll Do
- Execute and iterate on the Payroll Operations roadmap that will result in automation, standardization, and centralization of HR processes and systems.
- Payroll: Perform the collection, calculation, and entering of payroll data.
- Address employee questions/concerns relative to pay and time and attendance.
- Update payroll records and prepare payroll reports.
- Contribute to the development and documentation of repeatable and scalable payroll processes and employee-facing guidelines and procedures.
- Work with Accounting to maintain accurate job costing and G/L records.
- Produce and analyze employee data reports.
- Tax: Manage administration of payroll tax accounts, filings, and new account openings.
- Balance taxes from Workday to ADP.
- Balance and file quarterly taxes.
- Validate and reconcile tax rates.
- Produce and analyze company tax reports.
- Administration: Maintain the integrity and confidentiality of human resource records, forms, files, and policies.
- Employee Experience: Maintain knowledge of payroll trends, best practices, regulatory changes.
- Aid employees with general People Payroll questions and ensure exceptional customer service.
- Support employee onboarding and offboarding processes and support coordination.

- You have strong business acumen with ability to partner and collaborate with HR colleagues, functional specialists and internal clients.
- You have functional knowledge of federal and state employment laws and compliance.
- You possess solid time-management, prioritization, written and verbal communication skills.
- You are able to maintain strict confidentiality, establish trust and credibility and act with complete integrity; aptitude and proven ability to resolve conflicts creatively and collaboratively.
- You are able to work well independently AND collaboratively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- You thrive in a fast-paced environment and work through ambiguity.
- You consider yourself highly detail-oriented and organized.
- You have strong Excel skills.
What You’ve Done
- You have 5+ years’ of progressive payroll experience in a dynamic, fast-paced, rapidly growing environment.
- You have experience using a Workday and ADP Smart Compliance for payroll.
- You have payroll tax and compliance experience.
Nice to Haves
- You have a bachelor's degree in human resources, business, or related field.
- You have experience in a People Operations role in the tech industry, ideally having observed M&A integrations.
- You have experience working in a rapidly-scaling startup.
- You have Working knowledge of employment laws and compliance in all U.S. states.
