The Role
The Payroll Specialist is accountable for providing quality service to all employees. This role involves assisting employees with payroll production and tax-related inquiries, ensuring accuracy, and delivering exceptional customer service.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent; college degree highly preferred.
- 4 or more years of office-related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Solid understanding of payroll and payroll tax laws.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel functions such as VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, payroll software (e.g., Paylocity, ADP, etc.), and data entry.
- Strong customer service orientation with proven problem resolution skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Exceptional organizational, planning, and prioritization skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Experience working with HRIS integrations and payroll system interfaces is a plus.
- Experience processing or supporting multi-state payroll is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Compile payroll data including garnishments, vacation time, insurance, and 401(k) deductions for 1,000+ employees, including new hire and termination processing.
- Review and verify information from electronic time clocks for completeness and accuracy.
- Calculate overtime, vacation, and sick hours accurately.
- Contact employees to obtain any missing information.
- Process semi-monthly transfer of payroll data to the payroll system.
- Generate payroll management reports from the payroll software system.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
