Job Overview
Responsibilities
- Process biweekly payroll for all employees by using timesheets, leave requests, bonus files and other possible adjustments.
- Reviews and resolves issues related to missing/short hours timesheets, missing or incorrect tax setup, time and labor errors, etc.
- Affords assistance to employees and managers with timekeeping questions and issues; escalates complex issues to management for additional support.
- Ensures accurate completion of all payroll duties within established time parameters and in accordance with all policies and procedures, local, state, and federal laws.
- Manages tax withholding and deduction records for all federal, state, local or other employee or employer taxes. Ensures records are kept according to established timelines and procedures.
- Manages employee tax data, for new hires and existing employees, ensuring all necessary forms are submitted electronically where possible. Ensures completion of tax forms, direct deposit forms, and other payroll related forms as necessary.
- Reviews and processes wage garnishment requests, child support orders, and judgment requests within payroll system, and/or garnishment vendor system, ensuring accurate record keeping and deductions.
- Answers employee questions regarding paychecks, withholding tax issues or wage adjustments, and helps troubleshoot possible issues with pay.
- Prepares direct deposit transmittal information for review and approval by management.
- Prepares wire requests for tax payments for review and approval by management.
- Participates in the administration of programs to develop, adjust, and/or enhance payroll systems and procedures as required, due to changes in tax laws, regulations, and organizational pay policies or compensation initiatives.
- Participates in reconciliations for wages, taxes, and balances to support the quarterly and annual tax filings and employee tax statements (W-2s).
- May prepare tax returns and filings for review and approval by management.
- Researches local and state taxes in locations where company is expanding.
- Might assist NCUA Examiners, external and internal Auditors, and management with periodic examinations and audits.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of four (4) years of experience in payroll processing.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state tax regulations.
- Experience with PeopleSoft Payroll highly preferred.
- Must be able to sustain knowledge of changing technology and industry practices as well as changes in wage and hour laws.
- Experience using AI tools is preferred.
