About the role
PSG Traffic Services is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to oversee and execute weekly payroll operations for a growing workforce. This role is responsible for managing high-volume payroll processing, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, and preparing certified payroll reports for applicable projects.
Responsibilities
- Process weekly payroll for 8 branches throughout NC & SC that includes 250+ employees with a high degree of accuracy and timeliness
- Review and validate employee time data, wages, deductions, and tax withholdings
- Prepare and submit certified payroll reports in compliance with prevailing wage and government contract requirements
- Ensure full compliance with DOT regulations and payroll-related reporting standards
- Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies in coordination with HR, accounting, and operations teams
- Maintain accurate payroll records and documentation for audit readiness
- Support internal and external audits by providing required payroll documentation and reporting
- Monitor payroll processes and recommend improvements for efficiency and accuracy
- Stay current on payroll laws, tax regulations, and compliance requirements
Qualifications
- 5-7 years of experience in payroll processing, including high-volume payroll environments
- Proven experience managing payroll within a DOT-regulated environment
- Strong knowledge of certified payroll reporting and prevailing wage requirements
- Proficiency with payroll systems and Microsoft Excel
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience processing multi-state payroll
- Familiarity with payroll audits and compliance reviews
- Experience working in construction, transportation, or government contracting environments
