Position Summary
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for executing all Canada payrolls for their assigned resort(s)/corporate employees. The position will work closely with the Human Resources, HRIS (Human Resources Information Systems), and Benefits teams, as well as with our 3rd party partners to deliver an exceptional payroll process that is completed accurately and timely.
Essential Duties
- Provide a high level of service and support to all Alterra Mountain Company employees.
- Aid employees with questions about their wages, taxes, and/or deductions listed on their pay statements.
- Prepare employee records for payroll processing in payroll systems utilized (Workday Time Tracking, Workday and ADP Taxes).
- Support the Time and Attendance activity utilizing Workday Time Tracking.
- Enter and verify all deduction amounts included on pay run.
- Process reports to analyze payroll data for integrity.
- Process requests from Canada resorts for manual payroll checks verifying all wages and deductions required, including processing stop payments on lost paychecks and reissuing checks.
- Support the benefits team with Workday leave of absence adjustments related to deductions and time off accruals.
- Support gross to net calculations expertise in Canada taxes: CPP, EI, Federal, provincial and RRSP.
- Provide support to US Benefits team(s) with Workday enrollment and other benefits issues: Support Sun life questions related to payroll calculations.
- Research and provide information for unclaimed wage payments.
- Support Year End tax reporting processes as required by law.
- Complete employment verifications from various agencies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- 3+ years, multi-provincial payroll experience including taxes and garnishments, pay calculations, tax and wage reporting.
- Canadian payroll processing experience is required, and USA experience is preferred.
- ROE expertise and experience.
- Experience with bi-weekly, hourly and salaried payrolls.
- Benefits knowledge, including taxation.
- Finance/Accounting knowledge or experience required.
- Ability to use query and report generation tools.
- Workday experience required.
- Workday Time Tracking experience preferred.
- Proficiency in using MS Office (Word, Excel, etc.).
- Knowledge of computer network systems.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Able to interact effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
- Proficient in oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with the accounting and functional groups and senior management to collect, normalize and analyze data for financial & payroll reporting.

Education Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or similar field, or equivalent 3 years work experience.
- Canada PCP certification required.
