Payroll Specialist
About the role
The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for executing and auditing weekly payroll processing, managing payroll changes, investigating and resolving discrepancies, and supporting the organization's payroll and timekeeping processes.
Responsibilities
- Execute and audit weekly payroll processing, ensuring compliance with wage-hour laws and company policies
- Review and validate timekeeping data, including overtime, shift differentials, and PTO
- Manage payroll changes such as deductions, tax updates, garnishments, and direct deposit entries
- Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies, including off-cycle payroll processing when needed
- Serve as the first point of contact for employee payroll and timekeeping inquiries
- Maintain and optimize Paycor system configurations in partnership with leadership
- Support payroll tax reporting, 401(k) validation, and internal/external audits
- Analyze payroll trends and recommend process improvements to enhance accuracy and scalability
- Develop documentation, SOPs, and training materials for payroll and timekeeping processes
Requirements
- 2–4 years of payroll experience, including multi-state payroll
- Strong knowledge of payroll compliance, tax regulations, and timekeeping
- Experience with HRIS/payroll systems (Paycor preferred)
- Advanced Excel and analytical skills
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills with a strong customer-service mindset
- Ability to handle confidential information
