About the role
The Payroll Department manages various aspects of payroll operations for the City of Prichard.
Responsibilities
- Manage the payroll process, including preparation and distribution of paychecks.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations.
- Oversee the administration of workers' compensation and unemployment claims.
- Handle voluntary and involuntary deductions, and manage payroll taxes.
- Supervise staff responsible for delivering payroll services, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
- Oversee the implementation and maintenance of payroll software systems.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university in accounting, business administration, or a closely related field.
- A minimum of five years’ responsible experience in financial administration, including at least one year experience in payroll administration.
- Experience in financial administration, including supervising staff, maintaining financial records, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with policies and regulations.
- Experience handling payroll functions, including preparing payroll registers and checks, processing voluntary and involuntary deductions, managing payroll taxes, and administering workers’ compensation and unemployment claims.
- Experience overseeing staff responsible for delivering payroll services, including planning, organizing, and directing their daily work to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
- Experience with payroll software systems, such as ADP or comparable platforms, including tasks handled and level of proficiency.
- 10 days annual vacation with accumulation to 35 days.
