About the role
The Payroll Lead oversees payroll functionality, reporting, monthly entries, and reconciliations, along with other accounting activities. You will provide leadership to the payroll team to ensure Marco’s internal and external client expectations are met.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the point of contact for escalated payroll issues and involve supervisors when needed.
- Monitor team coverage and provide backup to other team members during absences.
- Train new team members and oversee cross-training within the payroll team.
- Offer coaching, leadership, and participate in performance reviews, including compensation recommendations.
- Provide solutions to payroll-related questions or situations.
- Respond to internal and external employee inquiries related to payroll.
- Act as the subject matter expert to resolve complex payroll issues and escalate when necessary.
- Drive process changes, collaborate with organizational leaders, and implement updates on the payroll team.
- Prepare variable compensation plans for management.
- Assist with monthly commission/incentive calculations and reporting for all business segments.
- Ensure payroll practices comply with government regulations.
- Create, maintain, and uphold standards for all payroll processes.
- Review and support bi-weekly payroll data, reporting, and system functionality for accuracy and efficiency.
- Verify new hires, terminations, and employee changes in payroll and ERP systems.
- Confirm bi-weekly payroll submissions to the bank, including deductions (401k, HSA, United Way, garnishments) and payroll taxes.
- Prepare sales/commission and payroll reports for management as requested.
- Assist with operating accounting work papers for financial and 401k audits.
- Prepare and post monthly entries and reconciliations, including payroll/tax, accrual, tech time, commission, and AR/AP entries.
- Provide backup support to team members and address payroll and commission questions.
- Maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive data, including medically related items, payroll, and HR matters.
- Accurately maintain documentation and comply with administrative procedures, including time entry.
Requirements
- Associate degree and four years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills
- Proficiency with business collaboration tools such as MS Office applications and Outlook.
- Superior internal and external customer service and communication skills with all levels of employees.

- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion regarding confidential matters.

Pay
$63,256 - $98,047 annually. The pay range listed is based on candidate's skill level, experience, relevant licenses, and educational background.
