About the role

Under moderate supervision from Payroll leadership and in accordance with federal and state laws including FLSA, perform a variety of analytical, clerical, and payroll responsibilities related to timekeeping and payroll functions for Corewell Health System and its team members. Serve as a resource and provide assistance to departments and team members with the timekeeping and Human Capital Management system (HCM), including direct deposit, tax forms, and pay slip view. Interpret Corewell policies, pay practices, and FLSA compliance. Contribute to accurate and timely payrolls while demonstrating excellent customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize critical thinking and problem-solving skills to navigate variable payroll-related situations, including calculations of retroactive corrections.
  • Enter, process, monitor, and maintain data for on- and off-cycle payroll runs following established Corewell guidelines; review for accuracy and completeness.
  • Ensure all on- and off-cycle payroll checks are printed, sealed, and distributed accurately and timely via mailroom, FedEx, or check courier.
  • Establish and maintain payroll support documentation for team members within assigned departments in a timely, accurate, and confidential manner.
  • Interact with departmental leadership and team members to address inquiries or issues related to timekeeping and payroll.
  • Review, upload, and validate withholding orders to ADP/WD, including child support orders, bankruptcy orders, creditor garnishments, tax levies, and student loans.
  • Determine necessary payroll processes, including reviewing, calculating, implementing, and auditing HCM data flow and alerts for assigned employee changes originating from Human Resources.
  • Assist, research, and resolve team member, time editor, and leader inquiries or issues related to timekeeping/payroll, including direct deposit, tax forms, and pay slip view, using ticketing software (e.g., Service Now), messaging apps, or telephonic systems.
  • Review and monitor biweekly time and attendance information; collaborate with editors/leaders to resolve exceptions/issues.
  • Process manual deductions received throughout the organization.
  • Perform prospective audits of assigned departments’ input into the timekeeping system to ensure compliance with governmental labor laws (including FLSA) and Corewell policy.
  • Review and process authorized corrections as requested by department editors/leaders.
  • Audit numerous reports for pay accuracy and compliance.
  • Provide timekeeping assistance to departments to enhance users’ skills.
  • Review and verify final processing outcomes of data input during the on-cycle payroll run process.
  • Sort, distribute, or respond to departmental mail, email, and faxes as appropriate.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations, Corewell Health policies, procedures, pay practices, and union contracts (if applicable).
  • Demonstrate outstanding customer service, maintaining harmony and concern for team members.
  • Strive for 100% compliance, accuracy, and timeliness in all payroll activities.
  • Provide coverage for fellow Payroll team members during vacations, leaves of absence, or training.
  • Complete special projects and other tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
  • 2 years of relevant experience in a payroll department overseeing timekeeping and payroll processing or as a time editor in a similar timekeeping system (required).
  • Associate’s degree in a related field (preferred).

Schedule

  • Full-time, day shift.
  • 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday.
  • Hours of work: 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
