Payroll Clerk

We are looking for a detail-oriented Payroll Clerk to join a team in Benicia, California on a Contract to hire basis. This role supports payroll processing for a multi-state employee population and is well suited for someone who is dependable, adaptable, and comfortable handling administrative and data-related tasks. The position offers an opportunity to contribute to accurate payroll operations while working with timekeeping records, payroll communications, and reporting. Responsibilities:• Enter employee time records, including timecards and manual time entries, into the payroll system with a high level of accuracy.• Monitor the payroll inbox, respond to routine inquiries, and direct questions to the appropriate team members when needed.• Provide day-to-day support for timekeeping issues and maintain organized payroll-related files and documentation.• Retrieve payroll information from systems and arrange reports and data for review and processing.• Assist the payroll team with administrative tasks that help ensure timely and accurate payroll cycles for employees across multiple states.• Review submitted information for completeness and flag discrepancies or missing details before processing.• Learn and navigate company software tools used for payroll and timekeeping activities. • Previous experience in payroll support, administrative work, or data entry in an entry-level capacity. • Working knowledge of payroll fundamentals and general timekeeping processes. • Basic understanding of California payroll rules, including regular time, overtime, and double-time calculations. • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the use of basic formulas for organizing and reviewing data. • Strong attention to detail and a dependable approach to handling sensitive payroll information. • Ability to manage multiple tasks, stay organized, and adapt to changing priorities. • Experience downloading and organizing data is beneficial.
