Responsibilities
- Lead the timely and accurate preparation of the semi-monthly payroll for 300+ employees, including reviewing timesheets for accuracy, calculating payroll, and preparing employee payroll and tax deposits.
- Affirm compliance with state and federal payroll and related tax regulations and laws, ensuring reporting requirements are met (including the preparation of the 941 report).
- Capture and process federal W-4 tax information for employees and year-end information for W-2 form distribution.
- Maintain and monitor accrued leave types such as vacation, sick, holiday, and overtime.
- Respond to and interact with employees, providing guidance on payroll policies, procedures, benefits, and related information.
- Review and resolve payroll discrepancies and timesheet corrections promptly and accurately.
- Prepare and review benefit and health insurance billing processes.
- Perform payroll year-end closing entries and audit schedules.
- Test and implement new payroll system pay, accrual, and deduction codes; update existing codes as needed.
- Audit data integrity between HRIS and timesheet software.
- Enter daily accounts receivable remittances received via check or EFT into the accounting system.
- Create and maintain procedural documentation related to all payroll functions, duties, and tasks.
- Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or closely related field.
- Familiarity with automated payroll systems (MIP accounting system).
- Familiarity with automated time sheets.
- Experience with payroll processing for staff size of 300+.
- Governmental finance/accounting experience.
- Preferred qualifications include a graduate degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or closely related field, 5 years of experience, and Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in an applicable academic discipline or related field of study.
- 3 years of experience working with local government, nonprofit programs, school, or in job-related duties.
