About the Role

The Payroll Administrator/Staff Accountant evaluates and manages the payroll practices at Microbac, ensuring accurate employee compensation, tax withholdings, and deductions in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role is also responsible for providing support for balance sheet reconciliation for the Finance team.

Responsibilities

  • Create efficiencies and improve processes for payroll practices, utilization of ADP Essential Time, and tax compliance.
  • Manage federal, state, and local tax withholdings, social security, and unemployment insurance using ADP SmartCompliance.
  • Monitor and maintain consistent processes for tax compliance and filings.
  • Provide reports and data analysis for payroll cycles, identifying discrepancies and/or adjustments causing inconsistency in numbers.
  • Assist senior leaders with analyzing data related to overtime, vacation payout liabilities, and inconsistencies in time and attendance or paid time off management.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources on people moves, promotions, salary adjustments, new hires, terminations, and payroll discrepancies.
  • Process bi-weekly payroll, distribute payroll reports, and execute year-end processes related to payroll and tax.
  • Maintain confidentiality and discretion with sensitive employee salary and personal information.
  • Assist with projects and initiatives as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, or at least 5 years of managing payroll processes with ADP Essential Time.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency with ADP Essential Time and Certinia, or another cloud-based business management platform combining financial management, professional services automation, and enterprise resource planning tools.
  • Expert skill level in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Outlook; intermediate skill level with Teams and PowerPoint.
  • Strong knowledge of labor laws and state regulations for payroll and exiting employee pay requirements.
  • Experience managing and reconciling balance sheets.
  • Effective and articulate verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail for reconciling payroll, reports, and audits.
