About the role
This full-time Payroll Accountant role is a hybrid position based in Fort Collins, CO, with a combination of on-campus and work-from-home arrangements. The Payroll Accountant will process and review payroll for university employees, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with institutional policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities
- Process and review payroll for university employees
- Reconcile payroll records and validate time and attendance data
- Calculate deductions and resolve payroll-related inquiries from staff and faculty
- Maintain and update payroll systems
- Collaborate with Human Resources on employment contracts and compensation changes
- Prepare payroll tax filings and related reports
- Assist with audits and support process improvements
- Contribute to the integrity and reliability of CSU’s financial and payroll operations
Qualifications
- Demonstrated skills in Payroll Management and Payroll Services, including end-to-end processing and issue resolution
- Proficiency with Accounting Software and payroll systems, with the ability to learn and adapt to new tools
- Solid understanding of Payroll Taxes, wage and hour regulations, and basic employment law as it relates to compensation
- Experience working with Employment Contracts, compensation changes, and related documentation
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Strong analytical, reconciliation, and problem-solving abilities, with high attention to detail and accuracy
- Effective written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
- Experience in higher education or public sector payroll, and familiarity with multi-state payroll, is beneficial
