Payroll Accountant

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Payroll Accountant to manage payroll operations for a construction-focused environment. This role supports accurate and timely pay processing across multiple job sites and states while ensuring compliance with union payroll rules and reporting obligations. The ideal candidate brings strong payroll accounting knowledge, confidence handling certified payroll, and a careful approach to tax filing and record accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Process end-to-end payroll for a union construction workforce, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on schedule.
• Administer payroll activity across multiple locations and states while applying appropriate wage, tax, and compliance rules.
• Prepare and submit certified payroll reports in accordance with project and regulatory requirements.
• Complete in-house payroll tax filings, including quarterly and federal reporting such as Forms 940 and 941.
• Maintain payroll records, audit earnings and deductions, and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
• Use Vista Viewpoint software to manage payroll transactions, reporting, and supporting documentation.
• Coordinate with internal teams to verify time data, job allocations, and payroll-related updates for active projects.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of payroll experience, preferably in construction or another complex labor environment.
• Proven ability to manage full-cycle payroll independently from time entry through final reporting.
• Hands-on experience with multi-state payroll administration and related tax requirements.
• Familiarity with union payroll practices and certified payroll reporting.
• Working knowledge of payroll tax filings, including Forms 940 and 941.
• Proficiency with Vista Viewpoint or comparable payroll and accounting software.
