Payments Architect
Overview
We are supporting a global financial institution in identifying a specialist consultant to operate within their US Payments function, focusing on cross-border and cross-currency transaction flows. The role sits at the intersection of payments architecture, business analysis, and system-level design.
Key Responsibilities
- Support design and optimisation of cross-border, cross-currency payment flows
- Analyse and improve end-to-end payments processing lifecycle
- Contribute to architecture discussions across payments platforms and transaction banking systems
- Translate business requirements into technical and process-level solutions
- Provide insight into payments messaging, flows, and operational dependencies
- Support investigations, issue resolution, and process improvements
Core Requirements (Must-Have)
- Strong knowledge of cross-border payments and transaction banking
- Experience with:
- SWIFT messaging
- Central bank / clearing systems (e.g. Fedwire equivalents)
- Real-time / high-value payment systems (e.g. CHIPS-type platforms)
- Understanding of:
- Cross-currency payment flows
- Full payments lifecycle (initiation → clearing → settlement → reconciliation)
- Familiarity with:
- ISO messaging standards
- Payment structures such as cover payments, serial flows, investigations
Secondary / Desirable Experience
- Exposure to sanctions screening processes and controls
- Awareness of regulatory frameworks within payments environments
- Experience within global transaction banking / payments teams

- Strong ability to interpret complex payment flows and system interactions
- Comfortable working in environments where:
- Internal systems are learned on the job
