Hinkle Contracting, LLC, a CRH company, seeks an Asphalt Laborer to join our team. Hinkle operates one of Kentucky’s most extensive networks of state-of-the-art asphalt paving and production supply facilities. Responsibilities

  • Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task;
  • Assist paving crew with various duties such as shoveling and raking, running wheelbarrow, safely backing/dumping trucks into paver;
  • Signal operators of equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and materials with shovel;
  • Follow direction of Foreman as to daily tasks and expectations for each specific project or jobsite;
  • May be called upon to run small power tools such as jack hammer;
  • Digs, spreads, and levels construction materials;
  • Lifts, carries and holds material, tools and supplies;
  • Aids in the placement, moving and dismantling of signs, barricades, cones and other traffic control devices;
  • Performs a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor;
  • Performs a variety of tasks involving dexterous use of hands and tools;
  • Maintains a clean job site, picking up tools and equipment to eliminate potential hazards;
  • Performs daily pre-and-post inspections with appropriate documentation in compliance with company policies;
  • May perform other duties such as shoveling asphaltic materials and assisting with maintenance of asphalt finishing machine to include adding or removing screed extensions;
  • Responsible for daily maintenance of equipment to remain in proper and safe working order;
  • Responsible for notifying supervisor if equipment needs to be repaired;
  • Shifts may vary according to project;
  • Ensures a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task;
  • Reports any problems to your manager;
  • Properly follows all company policies and OSHA / MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment;
  • Operates equipment safely and efficiently;
  • Follows verbal and written instruction;
  • Communicates effectively;
  • Displays a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors and the general public at all times;
  • Reports to work at the designated start time;
  • Willing to work nights and weekends when necessary;
  • Willing to work overtime when required;
  • Maintains current driver’s license that meets state requirements;
  • Has a Motor Vehicle Record that meets company standards;
  • Willing to work outdoors in extreme temperatures, both hot and cold;
  • Strictly adheres to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook;
  • Works in a team environment and assists co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required;
  • Wears personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and / or MSHA;
  • At least age 18 years of age due to nature of working environment;
  • Previous related experience in construction field is preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required;
  • Thorough understanding of the paving industry including preparatory work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, oil consistencies, compaction and other details related to asphalt paving;
  • Pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check;
  • Pass a pre-employment “Fit for Work” physical;
  • Provide valid documentation for the I-9 Immigration document;
  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors and the general public at all times;
  • Report to work at the designated start time;
  • Willing to travel and work away from home when required;
  • Willing to work nights and weekends when necessary;
  • Willing to work overtime when required;
