About the role
Work with other skilled Pattern Makers in the maintenance and repair of tooling, dies, robotic end-of-arm tooling, and mold tools.
Responsibilities
- Maintain production and non-production tools per dimensional checks.
- Follow instructions on work performed on tooling per engineering repairs and changes.
- Demonstrate strong communication skills (verbal and written) with team members, management, and engineering regarding work done or requiring completion to keep tooling routed through the Pattern Shop.
- Work within a team and collaborate with Global Manufacturing System (GMS) teams to maintain Built-In Quality (BIQ) qualification.
- Multi-task and safely operate multiple pieces of machinery for optimal efficiency.
- Follow all safety procedures and wear required PPE according to plant and corporate requirements.
- Maintain work area according to GMS Work Place Organization (WPO) standards and ensure a safe work environment.
- Follow lockout procedures and all safety policies.
- Read blueprints and apply shop math to make calculations and draft allowances for maintaining dimensions, contours, and profiles.
- Understand materials, tools, and tool applications.
- Use measuring tools/instruments to layout and verify dimensions and tolerances required of trades.
- Work with diverse groups, be self-motivated, and mentor others in problem-solving and innovation.
- Apply safe and good machine practices, programming code, tooling, set-ups, and inspection techniques; make adjustments/offsets to run parts within dimensional tolerances.
- Accurately complete all quality and inspection paperwork and documentation.
- Prioritize multiple jobs/tasks with different deadlines and follow jobs in progress with verbal and written instructions.
- Consult with and resolve issues related to tooling changes.
- Operate lathes, mills, grinders, drill presses, and other manual/CNC machines and equipment.
- Apply TIG welding experience.
- Use 3D CAD data in CNC programming, with preference in GIBBS/UGNX.
Requirements
- At least six (6) years of related experience as a Pattern Maker or a U.S. Department of Labor Certificate of Completion as a Pattern Maker.
- Must satisfactorily complete the General Motors hiring process requirements, including comprehensive assessments, drug testing, and a background check.
- At least 18 years of age.
- Eligible to work in the United States.
- Must be willing to work flexible shift hours (day, afternoon, or night shifts) as well as overtime, including weekends and holidays, with little notice.

Physical Requirements

- Ability to work and stand for extended periods.

- Bend, twist, kneel, crouch, and reach.
- May need to lift or carry materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Occasional sitting during certain tasks.
- Drive mobile equipment when needed.
Pay
This position may be filled with a Journeyperson or Journeyperson In Training. Compensation ranges for a Journeyperson In Training include ($39.12 - $45.64) or Journeyperson rate of ($46.57). Certificates/credentials and scoring in the interview will determine your status and pay.
