Position Summary
Lincoln County Sheriff's Office is seeking a Patrol Deputy to assist with law enforcement, crime prevention, and investigation activities in unincorporated Lincoln County. The position involves enforcing traffic laws, serving warrants, and handling hazardous situations in a stressful environment. The salary range is $32.78 - $44.04 per hour.
Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities
- Intervene in disputes and maintain order
- Respond to hazardous situations and maintain composure
- Issue citations, make arrests, and transport offenders
- Detect and deter criminal acts and report incidents
- Maintain records and prepare reports for investigations
- Inform the public and answer inquiries about laws and regulations
- Prepare media releases and speak to the media
- Testify in court and other legal proceedings
- Train other employees in specific areas of expertise
- Perform specialized assignments as needed
- Provide boating safety and crime prevention classes
- Conduct death investigations and handle biohazardous situations
Typical Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Two years college level education in law enforcement or related field preferred
- At least 21 years of age and reside within two hours of the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office
- Citizen of the US within 18 months of hire
- Must meet minimum DPSST requirements and obtain NIMS certification
- Driver's License required within 30 days of hire
- Free of felony convictions or violations of controlled substance laws
- Knowledge of administrative procedures, federal, state, and local laws, and ordinances
- Familiarity with and ability to use specialty software including Sheriff’s Office report writing software, LEDS, and Microsoft Office
- Good writing skills and excellent human relations skills
- Proper use of police equipment and techniques
- Ability to investigate, collect, evaluate, and analyze facts
- Handle stress and make immediate decisions
- Render credible testimony in court
- Carry out the full scope of the position with sound judgment
- Operate various camera systems, vehicles, radio equipment, and computers
- Obtain information through interrogations and observations
- Communicate effectively with others and convey information in writing and verbally
- Take personal responsibility for work quality and schedule
