What You'll Do Patrol Deputies perform a broad range of law-enforcement and public-safety responsibilities throughout Gunnison County. Your Work May Include Responding to calls for service and emergenciesConducting patrol throughout Gunnison CountyEnforcing state and local lawsConducting traffic enforcement and investigating motor vehicle crashesConducting preliminary and follow-up investigationsPreparing reports, documenting incidents, and collecting information and evidenceResponding to situations involving people in crisisAssisting residents, visitors, and partner agenciesProviding public safety during community events and emergency operationsWorking in rural, mountain, highway, and changing weather conditionsCollaborating with other local, state, and federal public-safety partners The work requires sound judgment, communication, adaptability, professionalism, and the ability to make decisions independently while remaining part of a close team. Law Enforcement With Range Working in a large rural county gives deputies exposure to a wide variety of law-enforcement responsibilities. One shift may look very different from the next. Basic Law Enforcement Training (or Police Officer Standards and Training) certification or equivalent.Ability to maintain Department proficiency standards in the use of firearms, including any tactical or equipment assigned.Must complete ICS 100 and ICS 700 within the first year of employment.May have to cover shifts or be on call in emergency situations.
