About the role

The Denver Police Department's Traffic Operations Bureau, Photo Enforcement Unit, has two to two openings for Photo Enforcement Agent (Photo Radar Operator) to support our expanding Photo Enforcement Program. These openings are to enforce compliance with Denver Revised Municipal Code speeding ordinances through the processing of photo radar citations.

MUST BE WILLING TO WORK A DAY SHIFT, 6:00 AM - 2:00 PM OR A NIGHT SHIFT 1:30 PM - 9:30 PM. MAY BE REQUIRED TO WORK WEEKEND SHIFTS.

Responsibilities

• Set up digital photo radar equipment in accordance with all applicable policies and procedures as well as statutory requirements.
• Ensure equipment functionality at the beginning of, during and at the end of deployments.
• Visually observe vehicles and annotate observations of vehicles exceeding the posted speed limit by 10 MPH or more on designated logs.
• Confirm visual observation of speeding violations with the photo radar equipment.
• Annotate information pertaining to photo radar violations observed during deployments on appropriate paperwork.
• Review, verify and certify accuracy of information pertaining to photo radar deployments performed.
• Perform location analysis to determine appropriateness of an area for automated speed enforcement.
• Input photo radar related data into spreadsheets and other computer databases with a high level of accuracy.
• Perform other photo enforcement administrative tasks in the Photo Enforcement Unit.
• Explain codes and regulations regarding speeding violations to the public.
• Review court packet evidence and testify in court regarding processes and equipment use, venue, identification, location, offense and date of occurrence.
• Provide support to overall Photo Enforcement efforts by the Photo Enforcement Unit, including performing photo enforcement location analysis to determine the appropriateness of an area for photo enforcement, tracking vehicle and equipment maintenance, and other photo enforcement administrative tasks in the Photo Enforcement Unit.

Requirements

• Requires Graduation from High School or a GED Certificate and two years of public contact experience providing information and relating rules, codes, regulations and procedures.
• Possession of a valid driver's license at the time of application.
• Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirement.
• The individuals hired will be required to obtain a Special Officer Certification from the Manager of Safety's Office.
• This Special Police Officer Certification is required in accordance with the City Charter and the Denver Revised Municipal Code.
• Failure to obtain the Certification by the end of the probationary period will result in termination from the position.
• Computer skill including but not limited to use of MS Outlook, MS Word and MS Excel is preferred.
• Attention to detail is essential.
• Strong problem solving skills is a plus.

Qualifications

• 100% Skills test
• A physical may be required for these positions.
• Finalists will be subject to a comprehensive background investigation conducted by the Denver Police Department including employment and criminal history which could include a polygraph examination.

Skills

• Attention to detail is essential.
• Strong problem solving skills is a plus.
