Patient Transporter - Radiology

Employment Type: Part time, Resource/Per Diem – variable hours, rotating shift

About the role

The Patient Transport role provides transportation of patients throughout the organization, including support functions associated with safe transfer of patients from the Emergency Department to various departments. This role also facilitates cleaning of rooms between patient use, ensuring infection control measures are met.

Responsibilities

• Utilizes SBAR Patient Transport Report and communicates with the RN to gain information about the patient and their current condition prior to transport.
• Assists with preparation of the patient for transport.
• Monitors intravenous lines during transfer.
• Ensures safety and comfort of the patient during transport.
• Maintains proper oxygen levels of the patient during transport.
• Prioritizes workload to ensure all patients are transported by their scheduled times.
• Performs cleaning and maintenance of transport equipment.
• Assists with answering phones, patient positioning/transfer, retrieving/returning supplies, maintaining linen supplies, and filing.
• Facilitates cleaning of rooms, including emptying kick buckets, removing trash, and returning equipment to appropriate areas.
• Cleans stretchers, counters, table tops, cables, cords, and lead wires with appropriate cleaning solution.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Certification or re-certification in Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within one month of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

• Six months of patient care experience.
• Familiarity with standard desktop and Windows-based computer systems, including email, e-learning, intranet, and computer navigation.
• Ability to use other software required to perform essential functions.
