Patient Transporter

Location: 225 Williamson Street, Elizabeth, NJ 07202

Pay Range: $17.88 per hour

About the role

Transport inpatients via wheelchair, stretcher, and/or bed to designated test areas within the hospital, adhering to all safety, departmental policies, procedures, and protocols.

Responsibilities

• Transports patients to and from all areas in the hospital complex, including patient care units and diagnostic testing areas.
• Reports to work dressed professionally in uniform.
• Responds to radio calls from dispatch or other staff regarding patient transport or messenger needs.
• Keeps transport equipment clean and ready for use; reports malfunctioning equipment to the manager.
• Uses proper body mechanics in transporting patients.
• Properly identifies patients by checking ID bands and asking for their name prior to transport.
• Reports to the manager upon arrival at assigned areas and after completing calls to receive the next assignment.
• Immediately reports any delays or unusual circumstances to the manager.
• Maintains records of transportation/messenger activity, including the name of the item, time of departure, and time of arrival.
• Can carry, push, lift, or pull a minimum of 50 pounds; reports excessive weight to a supervisor and does not attempt to lift alone if beyond 50 pounds.

Requirements

• Ability to speak, write, read, and understand the English language.
• CPR Certified or CPR Certification required within the first 30 days of hire.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs independently.
