Patient Transporter

Native preference in hiring is given to qualified enrolled members of Paskenta Band of Nomlaki Indians and Native Americans in accordance with the Band’s Preference Policy. Applicants claiming Indian preference must submit verification of Indian heritage certified by tribe of affiliation or other acceptable documentation.

About the Role

Patient Transporter will transport Paskenta Nomlaki Tribal Members to all health care appointments and related entities in a safe and respectful manner. Responsibilities include maintaining vehicles and equipment, monitoring the health and wellbeing of Tribal Members during transport, and assisting with patient needs. If necessary, the role may involve performing certain health care services such as assisting with durable medical equipment, patient positioning, CPR, and First Aid.

Responsibilities

• Maintains safety when assisting patients into and out of vehicles and during transfers.
• Safely operates wheelchair lift as needed.
• Follows protective protocols to ensure the safety and health of all personnel.
• Establishes staff schedules, maintains vehicle logs, and reports as required by the Government Service Administration (GSA).
• Completes vehicle maintenance inspections prior to daily use for safe and comfortable patient transport.
• Maintains a schedule ensuring timely pick-up and transport of Tribal Members.
• Receives requests, schedules trips, notifies patients of scheduled trips or unavailability, and assists with alternate arrangements.
• Communicates delays to Tribal Members and reports traffic delays to supervisor.
• Establishes and maintains communication with patients and coworkers to improve service quality.
• Documents incidents or accidents immediately to supervisor.
• Ensures cameras and GPS systems are correctly maintained and functioning while the vehicle is in use.
• Occasionally performs courier services between clinics and other Tribal Government offices.
• Adheres to company policies and procedures.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

• Minimum 18 years of age.
• Valid California Driver’s License with a clean and current DMV driving record.
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Current BCLS and First Aid Certification (may complete within the first 30 days of hire).
• Pass a mandatory drug test and alcohol screening.

Vaccination Requirements

You will be required to provide vaccination records showing proof of immunity for TB or PPD, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, TDAP, and Hep B. If records are more than 10 years old, titers are required to confirm immunity.

Physical Demands

• Regularly required to talk, hear, stand, walk, sit, use hands, and reach with hands and arms.
• Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• May require exertion up to 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects.
• Able to safely push and pull a wheelchair.
• Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Schedule

Monday-Friday, with rare Saturday work if returning from transport.

Work Environment

• Performed in and out of healthcare settings.
• Noise level is usually low to moderate.
• Work involves potential exposure to blood-borne pathogens requiring OSHA training.
• Routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, photocopiers, and fax machines.

Background Check Requirements

Pre-employment drug testing and Department of Justice fingerprinting clearance through Federal, State, and Child Abuse Index are required. Criminal clearances are obtained to protect the welfare and safety of clients receiving services.
