Patient Support Assistant
Job Description Summary
We assist licensed clinicians in providing direct and indirect patient care on assigned units. Our responsibilities include performing and assisting with activities of daily living, maintaining cleanliness and safety, assisting patients and visitors, and performing delegable nursing tasks.
Responsibilities And Duties
40% - Performs and/or assists with activities of daily living (e.g., bathing, grooming, eating, walking).
Maintains environmental cleanliness and safety of patient rooms, unit, and equipment.
Provides assistance to patients, visitors, and nursing personnel.
Develops respectful and compassionate relationships with patients and families.
Serves as a patient safety champion, ensuring adherence to safety guidelines.
Assists in telemetry cardiac monitoring, recognizing life-threatening arrhythmias, and communicating immediately to licensed clinicians.
Acts as a transporter for the nursing unit and runs errands for patient care.
Additional Responsibilities
Performs delegated nursing tasks, including waived testing, specimen collection, and basic care duties.
Accurately collects and documents data such as height, weight, vital signs, intake and output.
Uses portable technology for measurement and documentation.
Reports patient observations and concerns to the Registered Nurse.
Assists hospital visitors and staff with information needs.
Utilizes wireless devices and technology for healthcare coordination.
Serves as a super user for nursing assistant information technology and preceptor for new nursing assistants.
Maintains supplies and equipment necessary for patient care operations.
Secures and handles appropriate supplies, medications, and lab specimens.
Minimum Qualifications
High School or GED
BLS - Basic Life Support - American Heart Association
CPR certified
Basic PC skills for managing patient information and EMR documentation.
