Job Summary
PeaceHealth is seeking a Patient Sitter for a Full Time, 0.90 FTE, Night position (1900-0730).
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma
- Experience: 1 year preferred of patient care experience
- Credentials: Basic Life Support Skills
- Communication: Clear and effective with patients and staff
- Physical Abilities: Prolonged and extensive sitting, standing, and walking; ability to lift up to 35 lbs. without assistive equipment; ability to perform precise procedures; ability to bend, stoop, squat, reach, and kneel frequently; ability to lift up to 20 lbs. occasionally and 5 lbs. frequently; ability to move around area with frequent sitting; ability to push/pull up to 45 lbs. force; ability to complete tasks in a noisy environment; vision and hearing within normal limits
Essential Functions
- Continuous visual monitoring and surveillance/observation of assigned patient(s)
- Verbal redirection of patient from at-risk behaviors
- Sums up nursing staff if patient requires assistance
- Provides patient with explanations as necessary
- Escalates to clinical staff on unit if patient poses a threat to themselves or others
- Maintains visual patient observation at all times
- Coordinates relief when leaving the patient’s room to maintain constant patient observation
- Communicates patient’s primary language to nursing staff if different from English
- Collaboratively identifies and reports patient safety issues and ensures patient environmental safety
- Escalates any patient safety hazard identified in room to clinical staff unit
- Performs safe patient hand-off at break or change of shift
- Performs other duties as assigned
Working Conditions
- Lifting: Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without assistive equipment and/or devices (NIOSH); lifting non-patient up to 20 lbs. occasionally and 5 lbs. frequently
- Environmental Conditions: Exposure to biohazard, body fluids, and airborne particles
