About the role

The Patient Services Specialist 2 position at UW Medical Center-Northwest's ED Registration department is an 80% FTE (32 hours per week) role, working Friday and Monday from 10:30am-7:00pm and Saturday and Sunday from 6:30am-4:00pm. Day Shift.

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Greets, directs, and assists all patients and visitors in a friendly, welcoming, and professional manner.
  • Ensures patients understand admission policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates obtaining interpreters for patients as appropriate.
  • Performs admitting or pre-admitting procedures upon arrival of patients, including registering patients; verifying, collecting, and updating demographic and financial information by appropriate means.
  • Determines eligibility for care by using payer web portals and phone inquiries.
  • Collects co-payments or other patient liabilities.
  • Answers patient questions and provides directions to specified areas such as clinics, units, ancillary and support departments, parking, and eating facilities.
  • Aids patients in accessing hospital and community services by consulting and making referrals to appropriate resources.
  • Promptly and courteously answers all calls through the Medical Center switchboard.
  • Implements emergency procedures calmly, efficiently, and accurately.
  • Affords assistance in orienting and training new staff as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School graduation or equivalent.
  • One year of healthcare, administrative, or customer service experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for stated requirements.

Compensation, Benefits & Position Details

  • Pay Range: Minimum $24.30 hourly, Maximum $35.35 hourly.
  • Other Compensation: Evening Shift Differential: $1.35 per hour, Night Shift Differential: $2.00 per hour, Weekend Differential: $1.50 per hour.
