About the role

The Patient Services Specialist 1, under direct oversight, provides administrative support in a physician office, clinic, or other area, assisting patients to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with patient relations, check-in, check-out, scheduling, insurance verification, and answering phones
  • Arrange follow-up visits and referral appointments
  • Assist with patient registration by collecting and verifying insurance information
  • Verify patient demographics and enter changes into the computer system
  • Direct patients to appropriate waiting areas
  • Accept payments for physician/clinic services according to established guidelines
  • Post payments and enter charges into the computer using appropriate codes
  • Generate daily payment reports and verify cash drawer against report
  • Provide accurate patient, medical, financial, or procedural information to patients or approved outside entities
  • Discuss financial arrangements with patients when required
  • Receive and direct phone calls; assist patients and other visitors
  • Respond to routine inquiries concerning practice services, hours of operation, etc.
  • Ensure any patient complaints are handled appropriately
  • Assist with medical records duties as requested

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent

  • Ability to adapt communication style to suit different audiences
  • Empathetic listener, sensitive, upbeat, optimistic, articulate, gracious, and tactful
  • Ability to promptly assess requests using electronic and paper resources and correctly respond to patient inquiries
  • Ability to calm upset patients in a composed and professional manner
  • Excellent data entry, numeric, typing, and computer navigation skills with attention to detail
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, constantly changing, and stressful environment
