About the role

The Patient Services Representative-Surgery position at Houston Methodist Willowbrook is responsible for providing exceptional patient care and support. This role contributes to a dynamic, team-focused work environment and collaborates with the interprofessional health care team.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts patient check-in/check-out functions and inputs accurate scheduling and registration data to initiate financial clearance activities as needed.
  • Coordinates patient flow consistently, timely, and with expert skill, handling add-ons, rescheduling, and cancellations according to department protocol.
  • Communicates effectively to provide high-quality service and respond promptly to requests from staff, patients, physicians, and other members of the patient care team.
  • Generates reports and assists with department correspondence, providing administrative support as directed.
  • Ensures patient information is communicated appropriately while adhering to confidentiality and HIPAA regulations.
  • Accurately records and enters information for charge entry, registration, scheduling, insurance verification/coordination, and obtaining authorizations or referrals to meet financial objectives.
  • Organizes time efficiently, minimizes incidental overtime, and prioritizes tasks to help other team members.
  • Uses department resources and equipment properly and efficiently, participating in inventory management.
  • Generates and communicates new ideas to improve quality or service, and seeks opportunities for personal development.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent education (GED, homeschool equivalency, partial or full completion of post-secondary education)
  • One year of healthcare or related experience
  • Experience in a healthcare-related work environment preferred
  • Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, as assessed through ongoing skills and competency assessments and performance evaluations
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform essential functions, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security
  • Basic computer skills in word processing applications and ability to utilize software systems such as the electronic medical record
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology and ability to analyze and solve problems
