Patient Service Floater under the direction of the area supervisor performs daily phlebotomy activities accurately and on time at Patient Service Centers (PSC) or as an In-office Patient Service Technician (PST). This role assists with coverage of client locations as needed and requires travel within a designated region.
Responsibilities
- Ready to travel to client assignments within a designated region with short notice.
- Greets customers professionally and courteously.
- Ensures all field patient service and PSC specimens are collected accurately and on time.
- Collects specimens (e.g., blood, urine, fecal) according to established procedures, explaining processes clearly to reduce patient anxiety.
- Disposes of biohazard fluids, tissues, and contaminated sharps in compliance with laws, standards, and policies.
- Completes requisitions accurately in Pathconnect and other PathGroup computer applications.
- Enters patient, specimen, insurance, or billing information into systems with high attention to detail.
- Communicates with clients to verify orders, tests, and billing information (e.g., diagnosis codes, UPIN).
- Researches test/client information using lab computer systems.
- Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as required.
- Packages specimens for transport, ensuring integrity through proper temperature control and labeling.
- Maintains proficiency in proper collection methods and processing of all specimens.
- Maintains required records, logs, and monthly statistics.
- Performs basic clerical duties (filing, faxing, mail preparation) and electronic data entry.
- Approves time in attendance software by noon on the Monday following the end of the pay period.
- Submits accurate expense and travel logs on Monday for the prior week or as directed.
- Adheres to grooming, dress code, and lab coat policies, maintaining a neat and professional appearance.
- Manages fluctuating patient flow efficiently.
- Displays courteous and professional behavior to clients, patients, and coworkers, fostering a cooperative environment.
- Answers telephones in a friendly and helpful manner, incorporating company name and self-identification.
- Performs duties independently and communicates pertinent issues to supervisors for resolution.
- Maintains clean, neat, and well-repaired facilities; reports repairs or maintenance needs.
- Assists with periodic inventory counts and reports shortages or problems.
- Utilizes proper PPE to ensure patient and personal safety; adheres to lab safety precautions and procedures.
- Protects confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected health information and sensitive company data.
- Familiar with and abides by the Corporate Compliance Program and all Corporate policies, including Privacy and Security policies.
- Collaborates with other departments within PathGroup and subsidiaries.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
