About the Role

A Patient Service Floater supports daily phlebotomy activities at Patient Service Centers (PSC) or as an In-office Patient Service Technician (PST), ensuring accurate and timely specimen collection. This role requires travel to client locations within a designated region, often with short notice, and involves professional interaction with clients, patients, and PathGroup personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to client assignments within a designated region on short notice.
  • Greet customers courteously and professionally.
  • Collect and process field patient service and PSC specimens accurately and on time.
  • Perform venipuncture and other specimen collections (e.g., urine, fecal) following established procedures, ensuring patient comfort and clarity.
  • Dispose of biohazard fluids, tissues, and contaminated sharps in compliance with laws and policies.
  • Complete requisitions accurately in Pathconnect or other PathGroup applications.
  • Enter patient, specimen, insurance, or billing information into computer systems with high attention to detail.
  • Communicate with clients to verify orders, tests, and billing information (e.g., diagnosis codes, UPIN).
  • Research test and client information using lab computer systems.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.
  • Package specimens for transport, ensuring integrity through proper storage and labeling.
  • Maintain required records, logs, and monthly statistics.
  • Perform basic clerical duties, including filing, faxing, and mail preparation.
  • Approve time in attendance software and submit accurate expense/travel logs as directed.
  • Adhere to grooming, dress code, and lab coat policies; maintain a neat and professional appearance.
  • Manage fluctuating patient flow efficiently and professionally.
  • Communicate courteously with clients, patients, and co-workers to foster a cooperative environment.
  • Answer telephones in a friendly and helpful manner.
  • Work independently and escalate pertinent issues to supervisors.
  • Maintain clean, orderly facilities and report repairs or maintenance needs.
  • Assist with inventory counts and report shortages or problems.
  • Use proper PPE and follow laboratory safety precautions as outlined in procedure manuals.
  • Protect patient and company data in alignment with security best practices and regulatory guidelines.
  • Comply with the Corporate Compliance Program and all corporate policies, including Privacy and Security policies.
  • Collaborate with other PathGroup departments and subsidiaries as needed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
