About the role

This position supports a physician practice by performing administrative and secretarial functions. The role involves direct customer contact to obtain accurate demographic and insurance information, facilitate scheduling, and manage patient flow.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure positive customer service atmosphere in the reception area.
  • Interact with co-workers and internal customers respectfully and professionally.
  • Process telephone calls and messages promptly, accurately, courteously, and efficiently.
  • Triage and schedule patients according to department guidelines.
  • Pre-register patients and enter all information into the billing system.
  • Identify and resolve coding discrepancies to maximize reimbursement and minimize rejections.
  • Enter charges and codes accurately into the billing system.
  • Accurately complete cash sheets and deliver them daily.
  • Support financial objectives by making every effort to collect payment at the time of visit.
  • Facilitate patient access to care by coordinating referrals, authorizations, and specialty care.
  • Assist patients in meeting insurance requirements for continued care.
  • Facilitate patient access to care by assisting with scheduling and providing instructions and directions based on protocols and physician orders.
  • Assist in maintaining/decreasing departmental costs by ensuring supplies are replenished daily and maintaining a clean, safe environment.
  • Perform effectively as a preceptor/mentor to new hires and/or students.
  • Solve problems and seek assistance from immediate supervisor when appropriate.
  • Support performance improvement initiatives within the physician practice.
  • Maintain the environment of care by incorporating into practice performance improvement initiatives that have been implemented.
  • Participate in continuous survey readiness for inspections and surveys.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or higher level of education.
  • Strong leadership ability, good organizational skills, independent and critical thinking skills, sound judgment, and knowledge of legal aspects and liability of nursing practice.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience.
  • Previous outpatient office experience.
  • Two years’ experience in a medical/billing/fiscal or customer service function strongly preferred.
  • Medical terminology and third-party health care coverage experience preferred.
  • Experience in healthcare setting.

Schedule
