Patient Service Representative
About the role

Responsibilities
- Manage patient check-in and check-out processes, including identification verification, demographic updates, and insurance information management.
- Collect specified co-pays and payments from patients according to their coverage specifications, and handle self-pay patients.
- Screen for eligibility and financial assistance, and follow policies for collecting and handling cash.
- Affirmatively place patient information into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) accurately and promptly.
- Process referrals and authorizations for specialty services, and contact patients to schedule appointments and send reminders.
- Respond to billing and payment inquiries from patients as needed, escalating issues as necessary.
- Perform general clerical duties such as scanning information, tracking data, and managing correspondence and packages.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED equivalent, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Medical Assistant certification, C-NA certification, or completion of a Medical Terminology course preferred.
- 1 – 3 years of experience in administrative or customer service roles, preferably in a healthcare setting.
- Demonstrated ability to multitask, be flexible, ensure accuracy, and manage a high workload in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic computer literacy, including proficiency in using a computer system to enter information, manage appointments, and access EHR.
- Knowledge of cashiering functions and the ability to record payments and cash transactions.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interact with diverse patient populations.
- A basic understanding of medical terminology and procedures is helpful.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and listen attentively to patients and medical professionals.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish is preferred.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Medical Assistant certification, C-NA certification, or completion of a Medical Terminology course is preferred.
- Experience in a healthcare environment is preferred.
