About the Role

The Patient Safety Specialist will participate in the implementation, review, and support of the facility patient safety program. This role promotes and fosters a culture of safety throughout the organization. In collaboration with leadership, coworkers, and medical staff, the specialist will develop, implement, monitor, and champion processes related to key patient safety issues. The specialist will model behaviors that embrace just culture, reporting, flexibility, and learning across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation, review, and ongoing management of the facility’s patient safety program.
  • Collaborate with leadership, medical staff, and coworkers to develop and monitor patient safety processes.
  • Champion a culture of safety, emphasizing just culture, reporting, and continuous learning.
  • Serve as an effective change agent within the organization.
  • Present to diverse audiences, including physicians, clinicians, administration, and support staff.
  • Perform duties in alignment with Mercy’s mission, values, and service standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 3+ years of clinical healthcare-related experience.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proven leadership ability.
  • Knowledge of complex hospital and healthcare systems, processes, and quality/performance improvement.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong public speaking skills.
  • Self-directed with the ability to work independently and travel throughout the hospital.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a healthcare-related field.
  • 5+ years of clinical healthcare experience.

Skills

  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Knowledge of the internet, evidence-based medicine, and clinical inquiry.
  • Analytical and investigational aptitude.
