Patient Safety & Quality Specialist, Registered Nurse - Performance Improvement - Full Time, Days

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is a 306-bed medical center providing care to residents of eastern Long Island. The hospital features the Knapp Cardiac Care Center, a modern ambulatory surgical pavilion with specialized services including women's imaging, a sleep laboratory, and bariatric surgery. It operates a Provisional Level 2 Trauma Center, a Primary Stroke Center designated by the New York State Department of Health, and multiple outpatient sites such as a wound care center, hemodialysis center, and various primary care and specialty offices.

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Patient Safety & Quality Specialist to join our team in Performance Improvement on a full-time, days schedule. In this role, you will partner with clinical services and departments to facilitate continuous improvement by identifying variances, analyzing opportunities, implementing improvement strategies, and evaluating their effectiveness. You will apply departmental values, including thorough and objective analysis, a systems-based approach, data-driven evaluation, and feedback sharing to promote learning and improvement.

Responsibilities

• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Manages interdisciplinary teams in specific improvement projects using recognized performance improvement methodologies.
• Supports analysis of project outcomes through data.
• Reviews performance data and works with clinical leadership to identify and prioritize opportunities for improvement.
• Analyzes performance data from internal and external sources.
• Follows up on incident and adverse event reports with thorough, objective analysis using a systems-based approach.
• Applies principles of a just culture in facilitating root cause analyses.
• Evaluates performance against recognized benchmarks to identify improvement opportunities.
• Communicates with clinical and administrative leadership in a timely manner.
• Actively participates in committees and teams to analyze processes, process variation, and support continuous improvement.
• Promotes a culture of safety and continuous improvement through just-in-time training and sharing lessons learned.
• Participates in the development and delivery of formal education programs to support improvement goals.
• Models a patient-centered, interdisciplinary team approach valuing transparency to optimize patient care from quality, safety, and patient experience perspectives.
• Continually develops skills and knowledge in performance improvement, patient safety, leadership, and change management through training, literature review, conferences, and professional organizations.
• Demonstrates knowledge of evolving and best practices in clinical areas, performance improvement, and patient safety.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree.
• Current and valid NYS Registered Professional Nurse License.
• 5 years of progressive clinical experience.
• Excellent communication (oral and written), interpersonal, organizational, and presentation skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Proficiency in process analysis, data analysis, project management, and facilitation.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (must obtain within two years of employment).
• 7+ years of performance improvement or management experience.
• Master’s Degree.

Pay

The salary range for this role is $84,956.87 - $137,280.00 annually. Actual salaries depend on factors such as experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. This range does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits.
