Nursing Quality Specialist - Full Time, Days

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is a 306-bed medical center providing care to residents of eastern Long Island. The hospital features the Knapp Cardiac Care Center, a modern ambulatory surgical pavilion with specialized services including women's imaging, a sleep laboratory, and bariatric surgery. It operates a Provisional Level 2 Trauma Center, a Primary Stroke Center designated by the New York State Department of Health, and multiple outpatient sites such as a wound care center, hemodialysis center, and various primary care and specialty offices.

About the role

The Nursing Quality Specialist supports the department in promoting nursing quality and patient safety. This role participates in patient safety programs and organizational quality improvement activities, facilitates initiatives with front-line staff and multidisciplinary teams, and identifies learning needs related to nursing quality and performance improvement. The specialist also engages in regulatory compliance monitoring, assists in audits, chart reviews, investigations, and collaborates in the organization's Magnet journey.

Responsibilities

• Engages and promotes initiatives/programs to improve staff, patient, and family satisfaction.
• Demonstrates and articulates the nursing process, quality improvement, performance improvement, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
• Navigates medical records and runs reports.
• Understands and validates standards of nursing and patient care supporting professional practice.
• Exhibits knowledge of professional nursing values and practice frameworks.
• Participates in nurse recruitment and retention activities.
• Articulates the importance of nurse-sensitive quality metrics and regulatory standards.
• Collaborates in developing policies, procedures, and unit-specific standards with nurse leaders.
• Assists in audits, chart reviews, investigations, RCAs, ACAs, and FMEA; develops corrective actions and monitors compliance.
• Analyzes data and creates reports to drive excellence.
• Reviews incident reports pertaining to nursing care.
• Facilitates and participates in unit-based quality improvement initiatives using evidence-based practices.
• Creates auditing checklists and monitoring tools.
• Supports the Director of Nursing Quality and participates in relevant councils.
• Promotes regulatory compliance activities.
• Assists in setting up meetings, taking minutes, and creating reports.
• Supports the creation of presentations and assists in publishing quality improvement initiatives.
• Builds strong interdisciplinary relationships with nursing, other disciplines, and management.
• Participates in nursing councils and committees as required.
• Engages in educational activities of the nursing quality department and educates front-line staff.
• Stays updated with best practices, regulatory requirements, and trends in nursing quality and patient safety.
• Maintains clinical expertise.
• Assists in leadership development programs related to quality and patient safety.

Requirements

• Current NYS Nurse License.
• Master’s Degree in Nursing.
• Minimum 2–5 years of experience in a hospital clinical setting demonstrating leadership.
• Ability to work independently, use good judgment in decision-making, and access resources effectively.
• Ability to collect and analyze data and prepare accurate reports.
• Effective communication (oral and written) to all audiences; assertive, influential, and credible communication that builds trusting professional relationships.
• Ability to adapt to constant change and set priorities to meet timelines and productivity requirements.
• Good customer relations and adherence to the Hospital’s Core Cultural Values.
• Above-average documentation skills, including computer literacy (Microsoft Office, electronic medical record, and specialized software).
• Current knowledge of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) processes.
• Maintains privacy of employee and patient information.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certification in specialty area.
• Membership in relevant professional organizations.

Pay

The salary range for this role is $84,956.87 – $143,709.52 annually. Actual salaries depend on factors such as experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. This range does not include bonuses, incentive pay, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits.

Schedule

Full Time, Days – 09:00 AM – 05:00 PM, Monday – Friday.
