The Risk Manager/Patient Safety Officer will have primary oversight of the facility-wide patient safety and risk management program. This leadership role will direct others within the facility towards process improvements to support the reduction of medical/health care errors and other factors that contribute to unintended adverse patient outcomes. This practitioner serves as the facility Patient Safety Officer and Risk Manager and provides leadership for safety assessments, coordinates the activities of the patient safety function or committee, educates other practitioners on the system-based cause for medical errors, consults with management and staff, and communicates literature-based ideas regarding effective patient safety strategies to others within the organization.

This role collaborates with executive leadership, medical staff, quality leaders, risk management, and clinical operations to foster a culture of safety, ensure regulatory compliance, reduce preventable harm, and drive continuous performance improvement.

Responsibilities

• Provide primary oversight of the facility-wide patient safety and risk management program
• Lead process improvements to reduce medical/health care errors and unintended adverse patient outcomes
• Serve as the facility Patient Safety Officer and Risk Manager
• Provide leadership for safety assessments and coordinate patient safety function or committee activities
• Educate practitioners on system-based causes of medical errors
• Consult with management and staff on patient safety strategies
• Communicate literature-based ideas regarding effective patient safety strategies
• Collaborate with executive leadership, medical staff, quality leaders, risk management, and clinical operations
• Foster a culture of safety and ensure regulatory compliance
• Reduce preventable harm and drive continuous performance improvement

Qualifications

• Required Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher in a patient care related field
• Minimum Experience: 5+ years of combined experience in clinical practice and progressive healthcare leadership experience
• Preferred Experience: 2 years of experience in Patient Safety, Quality, Risk Management, or healthcare operations
• Required Certifications/Licensure: CPPS Certification or eligible to take the exam within one year of employment
