Patient Safety Attendant Emergency Dept

About the role

Maintains safety and security of patients at all times by assisting nursing staff in the monitoring of patients on emergency petition, with mental health diagnosis (such as psychiatric conditions and suicidal ideology), as well as behavioral health issues. Assists in providing a safe environment for cognitively impaired, disoriented, manic and/or patients who may self-harm. Communicates and collaborates with care team members to support the provision of safe, high-quality health care. All duties described will be carried out under the direction, discretion, and supervision of the Registered Nurse. Other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary.

Responsibilities

• Maintain safety and security of patients at all times
• Assist nursing staff in monitoring patients on emergency petition, with mental health diagnosis, and behavioral health issues
• Provide a safe environment for cognitively impaired, disoriented, manic, and/or patients who may self-harm
• Communicate and collaborate with care team members to support the provision of safe, high-quality health care
• Carry out duties under the direction, discretion, and supervision of the Registered Nurse
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Nursing assistant certification preferred
• BLS/CPR certification required
• High school diploma or GED required
• Previous experience in an acute healthcare facility with mental health or psychiatric patients preferred
• Broad practical understanding of life experience and ability to relate to individuals with behavioral or mental health disorders
• Ability to successfully complete required training and demonstrate associated knowledge and skills
• Computer and audiovisual skills using various applications and technologies: Internet, email, word processing, wireless phone, electronic medical record
• Ability to work in a high-stress environment
• Effective reading, speaking, writing, composing, and comprehending English
• Effective eye and hand coordination
• Effective problem-solving skills
• Ability to multi-task, organize, and prioritize
• Ability to work well and effectively communicate with individuals and teams

Qualifications

• Must be able to independently perform essential job functions
• Must be able to independently: lift patients/patient care equipment up to 35 pounds, push, pull, and move patients and patient care equipment, bend body downward at the waist and be able to kneel, utilize a computer for periods of time throughout the shift, perform fine motor skills both upper extremities
• Must have close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading, visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection), using measurement devices, and/or assembly at distances close to the eyes
• Must be able to identify and distinguish auditory alarms in noisy environments

Pay

Pay Range: $18.00- 20.55 Pay is based on experience, skills and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
