About the role

Maintains safety and security of patients at all times by assisting nursing staff in the monitoring of patients on emergency petition, with mental health diagnosis (such as psychiatric conditions and suicidal ideology), as well as behavioral health issues. Assists in providing a safe environment for cognitively impaired, disoriented, manic and/or patients who may self-harm. Communicates and collaborates with care team members to support the provision of safe, high-quality health care. All duties described will be carried out under the direction, discretion, and supervision of the Registered Nurse. Other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary.

  • Communicate and collaborate with care team members to support the provision of safe, high-quality health care
  • Carry out duties under the direction, discretion, and supervision of the Registered Nurse
  • Support the Mission of Trinity Health and Holy Cross Health

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Nursing assistant certification preferred
  • BLS/CPR certification required
  • Previous experience in an acute healthcare facility with mental health or psychiatric patients preferred
  • Broad practical understanding of life experience and ability to relate to individuals with behavioral or mental health disorders
  • Ability to successfully complete required training and demonstrate associated knowledge and skills
  • Computer and audiovisual skills using various applications and technologies: Internet, email, word processing, wireless phone, electronic medical record
  • Ability to work in a high-stress environment
  • Effective reading, speaking, writing, composing, and comprehending English
  • Effective eye and hand coordination
  • Effective problem-solving skills
  • Ability to multi-task, organize, and prioritize
  • Ability to work well and effectively communicate with individuals and teams

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Previous experience in an acute healthcare facility with mental health or psychiatric patients preferred

Skills

  • Ability to lift patients/patient care equipment up to 35 pounds
  • Ability to bend body downward at the waist and be able to kneel
  • Ability to utilize a computer for periods of time throughout the shift
  • Ability to perform fine motor skills both upper extremities

Benefits

Pay Range: $18.00 Pay is based on experience, skills and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
