About the role

The Patient Representative (PR) greets patients and visitors, conducts registration, and provides support to ensure smooth operations at Zufall Health Center. The PR also interacts with medical staff and assists with various administrative tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Consistently adheres to departmental policies and procedures
  • Works independently with minimal supervision, using available resources for problem resolution
  • Completes assignments in a timely and efficient manner
  • Maintains high levels of confidentiality
  • Collaborates with team members to achieve optimal care and service outcomes
  • Uses departmental resources prudently and appropriately
  • Communicates professionally and ethically, fostering a positive departmental image
  • Communicates verbally and in writing, addressing work-related issues appropriately
  • Keeps managers or supervisors informed of work-related issues
  • Performs additional duties as assigned

Specific Duties

  • Greets visitors and directs them to appropriate destinations
  • Greets patients and visitors promptly, pleasantly, and helpfully in person and on the telephone
  • Answers the telephone and makes appointments or responds to inquiries
  • Ensures patients bring all necessary documentation for visits
  • Reminds patients of appointment times, documentation needed, and schedules/re-schedules appointments
  • Explains processes and forms to patients as needed
  • Conducts eligibility checks on insurances
  • Collects payments from patients, enters payments in eCW, and prints receipts for patients
  • Communicates with medical staff regarding patient visits
  • Assists with printing out requisitions or other forms as needed
  • Communicates professionally and maintains patient confidentiality
  • Communicates in English and Spanish to perform duties

Requirements

  • Knowledge of computer software programs such as Microsoft Word and electronic medical records
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Able to work with minimal supervision and adapt to changes quickly
  • Able to understand, carry out, and remember verbal and written instructions
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish required

Education, Training and Experience

  • High school diploma required; college credit or additional education in medical field or insurance and billing courses preferred
  • Current, unrestricted New Jersey operator license or ability to use public transportation efficiently and effectively
  • At least 1 year of experience in customer service field and 1 year of experience in collecting money or billing and insurances
  • Experience in a clinical/ambulatory care setting preferred
