Patient Representative
Job Overview
Fairview is seeking a casual (as-needed) Patient Representative position at the Peds Discovery Clinic at M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center - West Bank. Shifts are weekdays from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, 8-hour shifts with no weekends or holidays.
Responsibilities
- Support pediatric patients and families in a collaborative outpatient clinic environment.
- Maintain a welcoming, friendly profile in the clinic and operate reception and checkout procedures professionally and efficiently.
- Assist with phones and schedule future appointments or procedures.
- Utilize strong customer service skills to promote UMPhysicians' philosophy of patient-centered care.
- Welcomes visitors, provides non-clinical information, takes messages, collects co-pays, enters and verifies health insurance information, and oversees the clinic lobby/patient waiting area.
- Arranges accommodation or interpreter services as needed for patient visits.
- Solves non-clinical patient issues and provides backup and coverage as needed.
- Helps coordinate provider schedules and appointments.
- Prioritizes functions to maximize clinic efficiency and reduce patient waiting times.
- May be required to float to other departments based on clinic needs.
- Represents the clinic and provides high-level customer service to patients, guests, and staff.
- Answers or directs patient questions and concerns to meet patient needs.
- Checks-in patients for clinic services according to scripts and clinic processes.
- Completes registration process, prints labels, and prepares new patient medical charts as requested.
- Verifies patient demographic and insurance information.
- Verifies and updates forms requiring patient signatures.
- Collections co-pays, prepares patient receipts, and makes A/R deposits.
- Maintains and sends daily logs to the Business Office.
- Coordinates and schedules future appointments and/or procedures using the practice management system.
- Greets callers in a professional manner using customer service scripts and standards.
Requirements
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology and keyboarding skills.
- Knowledge of environment of care and infection control policies.
- Previous clerical experience in a medical or customer service setting.
- Previous computer entry experience with ability to learn new applications and work processes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of organization’s purpose and goals.
- Online scheduling and EMR training.
- Proven ability to learn job skills and provide patient services.
- Proven ability to accurately schedule appointments and interpret provider orders.

Compensation
The posted compensation range corresponds to the minimum and maximum pay rates outlined in your union agreement for the respective job classifications at the time of job posting. An individual's pay rate within this range may be influenced by various factors, including FTE, skills, knowledge, educational background, and qualifying experience as specified in the contract. If your role is eligible for a sign-on bonus, the bonus program that is approved and in place at the time of offer, is what will be honored.
