About the Role

Under the supervision of the Unit Director or designee, this position assists in planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating the activities occurring in the nursing unit. Responsibilities include performing clerical, receptionist, and coordination duties, providing patient care, and maintaining the physical environment of the area. Additionally, this role conducts registration and obtains financial information for all patients accessing services at Medical Center Health System Center for Women and Infants. The position reviews account information to optimize collection efforts, ensures accurate system recording for expedited reimbursement and compliance, and resolves issues to promote point-of-service decisions. The role also involves explaining and obtaining signatures on legal forms and registration materials.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating nursing unit activities.
  • Perform clerical, receptionist, and coordination duties.
  • Provide patient care and maintain the physical environment of the unit.
  • Conduct patient registration and obtain financial information.
  • Review account information to optimize collection efforts and ensure compliance.
  • Resolve issues to promote point-of-service decisions.
  • Explain and obtain signatures on legal forms and registration materials.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Patient Care Assistant or CNA certification preferred.
  • Current BLS Certification through the American Heart Association upon hire or transfer to department.
  • Prior experience in the medical field preferred (knowledge of admitting/registration process, customer service, receivables management, credit and collection laws, billing forms, medical billing regulations, insurance benefit calculations, HMO/PPO contracts, and third-party funding resources is a plus).

  • Strong organizational abilities.
  • Proficiency in professional customer service, oral and written communications.
  • Accurate and efficient keyboarding with strong competencies in common office software applications.
  • Effective teamwork skills and ability to meet deadlines and productivity standards.

Working Conditions

  • Heavy lifting may be required.
  • Sustained sitting, standing, or walking.
  • Ability to work under stress.
  • Significant use of personal computers, phones, and general office equipment.
  • Adequate visual acuity, ability to grasp and handle objects.
  • Effective communication through reading, writing, and speaking (in person or on the telephone).
