Responsibilities
- Accurately interview patients and families to collect demographic, financial, and medical information; perform bedside, inpatient, emergency, and telephone registration while meeting established time standards and patient identification policies.
- Verify insurance coverage, eligibility, and benefits; complete required Medicare and payer documentation; collect patient-pay balances; resolve registration errors; and ensure correct insurance loading and compliance with payer requirements.
- Serve as hospital switchboard operator by professionally answering and routing calls, maintaining call schedules, paging providers, monitoring alarms, and providing directions and assistance to patients and visitors.
- Deliver excellent customer service by welcoming patients, managing waiting areas, communicating wait times, maintaining confidentiality, addressing concerns, and identifying and reporting safety hazards or incidents.
- Participate in training, meetings, and performance improvement initiatives; assist with onboarding new staff; and contribute to departmental and organizational quality goals.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or GED.
- An associate’s degree or higher in healthcare administration, business administration, or a related field.
- At least 1-3 years of customer service, administrative, and/or data entry experience.
- One to two years of previous experience in a hospital-related field.
- Experience with database software applications.
- Medical terminology.
- EHR programs (e.g., Epic).
- ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS codes and coding processes.
- Hospital billing processes and reimbursement.
